Why is the Poplock Extendable Indexing Pry Bar the Best in Class?

Extendable indexing pry bar | Poplock

The Poplock extendable indexing pry bar is the best in class today because it is the product of our expert engineering design prototyping, testing, and advanced materials technology. Manufactured to the highest quality control standards, the Poplock extendable indexing pry bar has the strength and flexibility to replace a very wide range of specialized fixed pry bar, crowbar, nail puller and wrecking bar tools.

How has Poplock built an extendable indexing pry bar that improves on all other designs?

Extendable indexing pry bars are a rapidly growing segment of the hand tool market for three very good reasons. You can have increased reach and leverage but also compact storage. Indexing heads let you get into spaces and do tasks that fixed heads cannot, and with the adjustable length of the extendable pry bar you have the convenience of multiple fixed length tools in a single, portable, package.

  • Extendable pry bars give you the leverage options you want in a compact format
  • Indexing heads add flexibility for a range of tasks
  • Adjustable length gives a range of fixed size pry bars and crowbars in a single product

For Poplock it was a logical step to move from perfecting our indexing pry bar design to building an extendable pry bar with an indexing head. However, being meticulous about our engineering and material quality, we did not just fit an extension bar to our existing indexing pry bar design. We are known for our relentless testing of indexing pry bars, prototyping, and perfection of designs to make sure that we produce not just any tool, but the best tool in class for our customers.

What features of extendable pry bars did we investigate in our engineering design?

There are two critical features that need to be considered when designing the best possible extendable pry bar. The first is the operation, strength and reliability of the extension bar and mechanism. The other is the design of the pry bar head. For the pry bar head design we had already perfected our indexing pry bar mechanism, so this stage was comparatively straightforward, but we had to integrate our indexing pry bar head into a working extension bar.

What are the common problems with conventional extendable indexing pry bars?

Conventional extendable indexing pry bars suffer from the combination of weak detent ball locking extension shafts and blunt prying heads. This results in jamming and chipping damage, especially when working on hard to separate tasks, like transmission separation, where you can’t afford to damage mating surfaces.

What are the issues with conventional extension sleeves for pry bars?

The extension component of an extendable indexing pry bar is not as simple as it may seem. We have all seen products that use a sleeved pipe design with spring-loaded retaining lugs. This conventional solution has many issues that become readily apparent when you try to use it, especially if you need to hammer the end of the extension to get the pry bar head into a narrow gap or to force components apart. Distortion, jamming and broken retaining pins are common faults of the conventional design.

What are the features of the Poplock extendable indexing pry bar?

  • Poplock dual push-lock for secure locking
  • Effortlessly smooth telescopic mechanism
  • H-core reinforcement for superior impact resistance
  • Extension mechanism does not jam under hammer impact
  • Durable hollow steel construction
  • Quick-release interchangeable head system
  • Durable, sharp edged, Poplock indexing head design

How did Poplock redesign the telescopic pipe of our extendable pry bars?

We redesigned the telescopic pipe extension using a reinforced H-shaped steel core for exceptional strength and high impact resistance. We combined this with a dual push-lock mechanism that shares the locking load in a jam-free design that gives you very smooth and reliable movement no matter how hard you have been hitting the end of the bar for impact separation. We still use hollow cylinders to keep the weight down and improve handling, but without compromising on strength or utility.

Why are Poplock indexing pry bar heads better for component separation?

Another problem with impact separation using conventional extendable pry bars is the use of low grade alloys for the pry bar head. Low grade pry bar heads have a blunt edge to avoid chipping. This increases the force required to insert the pry bar head into a gap. The Poplock indexing pry bar head is made of high grade tool steel and is significantly thinner than competitor pry bar heads without compromising on strength, requiring less force to achieve component separation and reducing chipping damage.

What if you need a different pry bar head for your task?

Not every task requires a tool steel crowbar head, sometimes you need a nail puller or a different head profile for timber wrecking. The Poplock extendable indexing pry bar has an integrated, secure, quick-release system for the indexing head to enable you to fit a different pry bar head that’s appropriate for any job you have to do. At Poplock we try to think of everything at the engineering design stage, to improve your user experience.
